The business challenge

The hackathon may end on Demo Day. The difficult work starts after it.

Teams leave hackathons and innovation challenges with energy, concepts and compelling presentations. Momentum often fades when the problem is still unclear, important assumptions remain untested, ownership is uncertain or the next leadership decision has not been defined. Idea-to-Impact provides a disciplined pathway through that gap.

What this creates

Clear outputs.
Focused next moves.

The Idea-to-Impact journey

Five moves from promising idea to confident decision.

Teams deliberately revisit the same idea through different lenses. The objective is progressive clarity and credible evidence - not a bigger presentation.

01

Re-examine the problem

Confirm who is affected, what they need, why the problem matters and which assumptions still require evidence.

02

Test relevance and value

Connect the idea to meaningful user outcomes, organisational value and the priorities leadership already cares about.

03

Prototype and learn

Make the concept visible, test the most important assumptions and use feedback to strengthen or rethink it.

04

Build the decision case

Clarify strategic fit, impact, evidence, risks, ownership, execution and the investment or support required.

05

Prepare the leadership ask

Present a concise narrative and request a specific decision - pilot, sponsorship, resources, funding, further validation or stop.

Designed for

Cross-functional teams working on consequential priorities.

  • Corporate hackathon and ideathon finalists
  • Internal innovation challenge teams
  • Intrapreneurship and accelerator cohorts
  • Employee ideas selected for further development
  • Early transformation concepts requiring leadership support

Typical deliverables

  1. 01Evidence-backed problem and value proposition
  2. 02Concept poster and testable prototype
  3. 03Assumption, experiment and validation plan
  4. 04Decision-ready business case
  5. 05Leadership pitch and specific decision ask

After the hackathon

Winning attention is not the same as earning investment.

A strong presentation can help an idea stand out. Leadership still needs confidence that the problem matters, the proposed value is relevant, the important assumptions have been tested and the team understands what it will take to move forward.

Protect the energy

Give selected teams a visible next pathway before enthusiasm and ownership begin to fade.

Improve decision quality

Help leaders compare ideas using strategic relevance, value, evidence, risk and execution readiness - not presentation quality alone.

Invest progressively

Use small experiments to reduce uncertainty before committing significant time, money or technology.

Build reusable capability

Equip participants with a practical approach they can use on future ideas and business priorities.

Beyond hackathons

Useful wherever a promising idea needs to move.

Idea-to-Impact can begin after a formal innovation event, or whenever an early concept has reached the point where stronger evidence and organisational commitment are required.

Innovation challenges

Strengthen shortlisted ideas before final leadership review or funding decisions.

Intrapreneurship cohorts

Coach internal founders to validate value, navigate stakeholders and build credible cases.

Transformation portfolios

Turn broad improvement opportunities into testable initiatives with clear ownership.

AI and digital ideas

Test whether an opportunity deserves investment before selecting technology or starting delivery.

Practical questions

How Idea-to-Impact works in an organisation.

When should the programme begin?

Ideally, the pathway is designed before the hackathon so participants know what follows. It can also begin immediately after finalists or promising ideas have been selected.

Does every idea proceed to implementation?

No. A responsible innovation process helps organisations back, adapt, combine, pause or stop ideas based on evidence. Learning quickly that an idea should not proceed is also valuable.

What role do leaders and mentors play?

Leaders clarify priorities and decision criteria. Mentors challenge assumptions, open access to evidence and help teams prepare for the next decision without taking ownership away from them.

Can the programme be customised?

Yes. The duration, reviews, evidence expectations and final decision forum are shaped around the organisation's innovation process, cohort and intended outcomes.
